Salary: $22.00/hr. -  $24.27/hr.

Position/Job Summary:

The Development Specialist supports all administrative aspects of Development, including gift entry and acknowledgement, fundraising appeals, special events and grant writing. Maintains the Development Department’s Salesforce database for reporting, communications and specific campaigns and events. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up to date records in Salesforce database, including deadlines, funder contacts, and proposal and award information.  
  • Registrar and reconcile monthly gift income by category between Salesforce and Morrison financial records.  
  • Write letters of inquiry and competitive proposal narratives that may include letters of support, evaluation plans and associated budgets and concepts in collaboration with development team and programs.  
  • Process donor gifts: Receiving, logging, acknowledging, reports, cleanup, prospect research; manage in-kind donations; book gift batches. 
  • Participate in donor appreciation and recognition efforts. 
  • Ensure gift acknowledgments are consistently produced within 2 weeks of receipt of gift. 
  • Ensure compliance with IRS guidelines and agency timelines for all gift acknowledgements.  
  • Edit and utilize templates for various types of thank you letters (year-end campaigns, event-related income, honorarium or memorial giving, etc.).  
  • Correctly create and export reports and mailing lists out of database. 
  • Process credit cards as needed for gifts in accordance with Morrison finance procedures while safeguarding credit data. 
  • Manage Development department email. 
  • Provide professional support and assistance with all pre- and post-award grant activities. 
  • Perform prospect research to identify funding sources to support existing and planned programs, projects and campaigns.   
  • Actively participate as a member of the Development team by providing input and feedback to overall Development plans and activities. Participate and assist when needed in development activities and events. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor, CEO or designees. 
  • Participate in staff development, in-services, and training related to equity and inclusion in the workplace; model appropriate behaviors; develop, recommend, and implement improvements to business practices with awareness and understanding of the impact in a trauma-informed and culturally diverse organization.   
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices.

  • Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising is helpful 
  • Works in a multicultural-diverse environment. 
  • Frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms; talk and hear.  Visual abilities include close vision. Requires walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 10 pounds without assistance. 

 

Required Position Qualifications: (Minimum qualifications required to be considered for this position) 
  • Bachelor’s degree (or 3 years of administrative experience and education/training) 
  • Experience with fundraising databases 
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills using various Microsoft Applications (excel, word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) Salesforce, spreadsheets, databases, other publication software  
  • Advanced editing and grammar skills 
   
Preferred Position Qualifications: (preference may be given to those who hold these qualifications; however, candidates who meet the required position qualifications are encouraged to apply) 
 
  • Experience working in fundraising and grant writing. 
  • Salesforce database experience 
 
Other Requirements:
  • Personal transportation allows for travel within Oregon and Washington efficiently.  If driving a personal vehicle, you must be able to meet the agency's driving requirements. 
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal history background check. 
  • Attends required training.
